Serve your community with professionalism, courage, and commitment. We are seeking qualified individuals ready to support emergency response, fire suppression, and EMS services.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and speak the English language
  • Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License

Screening and Pre-Appointment Requirements

All applicants must successfully complete the following screening processes prior to appointment:

  • Driver’s record screening and verification of acceptable driving history
  • Background investigation
  • Pre-employment drug screening (UA)
  • District physical agility test

Certification and Training Requirements

Applicants as an EMT must meet one of the following EMS qualification pathways:

Option 1 – Certified EMT

  • Possess a current Washington State EMT certification at the time of acceptance
  • Successfully complete the Grays Harbor County BLS Protocol Examination within 45 days of appointment or acceptance

Option 2 – EMT Candidate-Volunteer

  • Applicants who are not currently EMT certified must be eligible and willing to enroll in an approved EMT training program within six (6) months of acceptance
  • Must obtain Washington State EMT certification within a timeframe approved by the Fire Chief or District Training Officer

Firefighter Certification

  • Applicants that qualify can attend training, provided at no charge by the District, to become IFSAC Firefighter I certified or recognized equivalent
  • If not currently certified, members can opt to do in-house training but will not be IFSAC Firefighter I certified

Driver Certification

Members serving as Firefighter/Ambulance Drivers must:

  • Obtain Emergency Vehicle Incident Prevention (EVIP) Certification or equivalent driver training
  • Complete district driver training requirements within a timeframe established by the Fire Chief or Training Officer

Additional Expectations

Volunteer Firefighter/EMTs and Firefighter/Ambulance Drivers must demonstrate the ability to:

  • Perform the physical and mental duties required of emergency response personnel
  • Participate in required district training, drills, and emergency responses
  • Maintain required certifications and continuing education
  • Represent Grays Harbor Fire District #8 with professionalism and integrity while serving the community
